Sounds
from the Woods

Mourning
dove at daybreak
Hiding
in the woods.
Its
haunting voice rides the wind
Coooooo-woo
over and over again
Until
it reaches beyond the trees.
Its
wooing call continues
Loud
and strong each morning
The
cries of losing a mate or
The
wooing voice of a lover
Needing
a lifetime vow
To
help raise a family
As
two “turtle doves”
Hiding
in the woods.
