NOT AGAIN
©By Mary Nida Smith

Ah, Mom
Homework
Not again tonight.
I know,
You told me before
If I do all my homework
I’ll be smarter tomorrow.

Ah, Mom
I am already smart.
I don’t have time,
There is much
To do outside
Like exploring
And learning
About nature.

Ah, Mom
Can’t I have any fun?
Yes, Mom, I’ll hurry
I’ll do my homework
So, I’ll be smarter
Tomorrow.

Ah, Mom
When I grow up
I’ll never do homework.
I’ll play and explore
While I tell
My kids that story,
Do your homework
You’ll be smarter tomorrow.

Ah, Mom
Not again!

Halloween Bug

Of golden orange
Stripped body
Rings of black
You came too late
To visit Halloween.

This is spring
The season of green
With rabbits and babies
And baskets of flowers
Of rainbow colors.

You came too late
I’ll see you again
When Fall colors change
and leaves fall.
So fly away now

NELL THE HEN

Nell is a silly farm hen.
She wants to be a tiny wren,
to sing and dance in the glen.
Nell has only feathers ten.

Dream of improving yourself
before dreaming to be someone you are not.
