So here's another thing no one tells you before you're published...
There is an online catalog called Edelweiss that booksellers use to find books to stock. (see edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com) The publishers upload an electronic version of their catalog to Edelweiss and include details about the book and their marketing plans. There is a "GoodReads" bar for each book, showing how much buzz the book is making on the site. You want the bar for your book to be filled in with green. My bar for NORMAL NORMAN looks OK, but it could use a boost. Just clicking "want to read" on NORMAN will help me fill in that green bar. And now you know about Edelweiss!

USSVI Submarine Veterans Base of Mountain Home founded by Robert Buschbacker provided stories and pictures, plus many others across America shared war and peace time stories of how it was, and is, to live below the sea encountering the unknown. Few people know what a huge part the USS Submarine Service provides in protecting us and our freedom.

TWIN LAKES WRITERS

Mary Nida Smith founded The Writers Support Group in the Spring of 1998, in the Lakeview/Bull Shoals area and when the Baxter County Library had an opening, she moved the group there. Later the group voted to change the name to Twin Lakes Writers. Smith invited several authors and editors as speakers to learn the craft of writing. She started and was the first editor of their newsletter, and organized the first writers conference in this area. Max McCoy, Ellen Gray Massey, and Vicki Cox were the speakers. The conference and other workshops were held at the Bel Arco Resort in Bull Shoals. Smith has kept a record from day one. On the patio of the children's library down stairs of the Donald W. Reynolds Library is a brick  that states; Mary Nida Smith, Founder of the Twin Lakes Writers.

Heroes Beneath the Waves is about teenage boys who left farms, small towns, and inner cities to defend the United States and democracy worldwide. Signing up for United States Navy submarine duty was an adventure of a lifetime during the early 1940s. Dreams of torpedoing Japanese and German ships and subs consumed their thoughts. Those who returned home as young men were older and wiser. Heroes Beneath the Waves was written to honor these men—gallant heroes—who served and are serving today on submarines.

Book Promotion Continues...

Each day I try to promote my book. Had to make two business calls today and when I was finished, he/she asked if there was another thing they could help me with; this left the field open to mention my book. One said, "How exciting, that is the type  a book I would read," and the other said, "How cool. You are the first author I have spoke with." I thanked God for the opportunity to speak with such nice people.

Many times the self published or any traditional author will state, "How do I sell or promote my book (s)?
It is up to each author to promote anyway one can. I started way before my book is release, because my husband was ill and in the midst of selling our house and then the move, I did the best I could. I created flyers to hand out.   A list below of who received a copy.

I had a garage sale (No, I didn't sell the garage.) where each person received a flyer. I met ex-submarine veterans (My book is about submarine veterans), men who have always love reading about submarines or other type of boats, or they knew a friend or family member who would love one.

Our realtor, neighbors, or anyone else coming through the door.

The mover and packers.

The furnace repair man or other repair persons.

The computer hook-up man, the driver from the senior center, and any one that came to my door after I moved in.

Mailed a flyer with our new address and phone number to friends and family.

I believe you get it.

Happy promoting. Enjoy. I love it. At one of the retail department stores I was working, I was voted sales person of the year. I was embarrassed at the time for I thought all the employees worked hard - why me? Looking back, I wish I could have been more confident and grateful. I am learning as I travel the journey of selling my books/writings/art/photographs.

I FOUND A QUIET PLACE

I went for a walk this morning where I found a quiet place to relax - relax to let the mind drift while visions flowed into lines of poetry upon a page. Oh, it was serene, I stood inspired as the breeze flirted with me while a Painted Lady rested in the middle of my flowered shirt. She battled with the wind for part of her dress was torn. Overhead I heard the honking of  Canada geese two, three flocks fly in low as they skid, then landed on River Bend Pond.  I felt something missing, I didn't have my camera with me. This after noon I checked to see if the geese were still there. This time the camera went with me.  I miss writing and dreaming. This adventure I am on, I want simplicity as shown in the photo below.

EXHIBIT THE MONTH OF JULY - WELCOME! WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU VIEW OUR CREATIVE WORKS.

               BULL SHOALS ART CLUB EXHIBIT

Bull Shoals Art Club will be exhibiting the month of July at the Ozark Regional Arts Council Gallery in the Vada Sheid Community Center (The Sheid) on the campus of Arkansas State University/Mountain Home. Reception Thursday, July 2 from 4-6; refreshments will be served.

     The Bull Shoals Art Club started in1992, with several artist friends who gathered to paint at the Bull Shoals First Baptist Church. January 26, 1999 Gladys Fournier of Bull Shoals filed Bull Shoals Arts and Humanities Council as a No-Profit Corporation. Over the years they displayed their art in several locations and had a gallery at Bel Arco Resort. Today, their work is displayed where they meet the first Wednesday each month at 10:30 a.m., in Lloyd Travis Municipal Center (City Hall) 14 Skyles Lane, Lakeview. Every other month no business meeting for they gather to paint and learn from each other.

     July artist exhibitors are, President Lilly Dana, had always loved to draw and at sixteen she started to paint in oil and attended classes at the Minnesota Art School. She loves to paint land and seascapes for her own enjoyment. Edie (Edith) Thornburg retired 1998 from Illinois. She took classes from Jo Rowell at PAL’s in Yellville, working in pastel, oil and colored pencils, painting still life, animals, and flowers. She is also a member of the Area Art Club and has won ribbons in several area art shows. Arlene Westmoreland moved to Lakeview over four years ago from Iowa where she was involved in classes, art shows and promoting her art in all mediums except acrylics. Phyllis Myers started taking classes for therapy in 1978 and after retiring to this area she joined the club in 2002. Jerry Preator is a native of Independence, Missouri who has worked and taught watercolor painting for over fifty years. He provides classes at his studio in Lakeview. He has exhibited in shows in several states winning awards and many are in private collections. Preator designed the latest Bull Shoals Art Club logo. Mary Nida Smith is a former president of the Siloam Spring Artist Guild where she entered several art shows. After moving to Lakeview she has been involved in photography. Her photographs have won in several local art shows. Dale Hedgecough, moved from Michigan to this area 12 years ago to retire.
